It was just after 9 a.m. and I was sitting at my computer with my camera patched in to download some photos, when I looked up and saw a family of raccoons hustling up my yard. So fast as I could, I disconnect my camera, and didn't have time to change a lens, or put on shoes, or consider that I was about to run out into my front yard wearing a nightgown because they weren't going to wait around for me. So, these were the best I could do, while I tried not to think about the potential horrors of running around barefoot in this baby toad-rich yard.
First I ran up through the garden as they were right ahead of me about the cross the street...
And then we all crossed the street but my progress was slowed as I had to hop barefoot over some poison ivy...
And then a car went by and the dashed off and I realized what I likely looked like and sheepishly waved and then...sounding like a pack of Tribbles, they dashed back and into my woods. So I ran into the house for shoes at least, and tried to catch up with them sneaking into the woods from the opposite end only to find they decided to race through the yard again...
So I took the wood path to the marsh, bravely refusing to scream as flocks of mosquitos descended upon me in my gown and garden clogs...(Good Lord, I'm not really that normal a 52 year old, am I?)...and we all headed to the marsh where they hustled to the brush between us and our neighbor making the most adorable noises until the drone of mosquitos drown them out.
I am realizing since I started this that I need to be ready at all times for anything to happen. I mean, I kind of knew that, but once making the decision to try to capture it, I really started to see just how active this place is!
In other news, we have WOOD DUCK babies!!! They are VERY shy and VERY tiny so no way to get a photo of them across the marsh but I'll keep my eye out for you in case a chance arises.
