Do you know the magazine, The Sun? If not, it's definitely worth checking out. It's an ad-free independent magazine that has existed for forty years. No small feat!
The December issue has some very thought compelling writing on a number of topics but at least go here and read this interview with Kathleen Dean Moore on the moral urgency of climate change. Quite a helping of food for thought and worthy of personal reflection.
Thanks again for suggesting this interview. I love reading The Sun for its professional, high quality and yes Ad free writing. Great poetry, fiction and non fiction. Your writing needs to be published there.

Very flattering words, Frank. It is certainly something to strive for. You do have me thinking more about essays, btw.

This is a very good article. Scary too. This is a topic I think about quite a bit. Consumerism / advertising = evil. (Though I'm susceptible to their charms myself, so who am I to throw stones you may ask :-) )

That's the thing, we are all hypocrits. I buy pineapples. In fact, the acknowledgement that we all have these inconsistencies in the article was part of what made it powerful. It isn't finger pointing. It's a plea for action as well as an acknowledgement that we are all caught in this big mystery of trying to understand just what it is going to take to REALLY change. Katrina? Sandy? Hottest summer in history? What is the tipping point going to be for each of us individually and will we reach it as a species. We may not.
