When I first started selling my photos, I had that funny dilemma that I think every artist has...does it "count" if friends buy them?
It's funny how sometimes "strangers" can make us feel more "legitimate" than people who know and, yes, even love us.
I did cross the "Oh my God! A STRANGER bought my work!!!" line a while back (a few times) but amazingly my friends STILL like my work. And you know what? I LOVE that they have some of it because I had underestimated the happiness I would feel knowing EXACTLY where my work is going and to whom and why. This piece was snatched up today by a friend for a friend and I could not be happier about it. I know the story of where it will go and it actually feels like a gift to me even though it will be a Christmas gift for a person I haven't even met.
That's cool.
And this weekend another friend got a piece that I thought I would actually keep (with no place to put). I LOVE the piece...a "Painted Koi" in a sweet gold frame that has been a signature piece at the Miller Beach Pop Ups. But I now will get to see it when I want and I am THRILLED with who has it. Just good all the way around.
So, to all my friends and loved ones who have supported me, it makes me smile everytime I think of you. It isn't that you didn't "count", it's that the new artist ego is a very delicate and insecure creature and I'm over that now. Thanks for taking such good care of my babies and letting me visit them. It really IS cool.
And, in reference to the title...I mean it when I say these are one-of-a-kind. That frame is PERFECT for this shot. Almost the exact same wood look as the lifeguard stand. And I can't repeat it. Don't wait if you see one you love...
Inspired me to go take a few shots of Blue Shore in situ. Will edit and send to your email later - probably tomorrow as tonight is Karaoke! Introducing a newbie to it... should be fun. later, dear.
