Carnival of Courage, August'07 Issue
Welcome to the August '07 Carnival of Courage: A Cavalcade of Superheroes!
Greetings, All!
Great issue for you today! Let's just get right to it, shall we?
What Is Easy, What Is Not
If you are in a hurry and can only read one post, please head here and just print this puppy off and post it somewhere you can see every day. It's a bit different than the posts I usually accept but it's just so, so true. Easy to read it, so many opportunities to live it passing by...Christine Kane presents What's Easy. What's Not. posted at Christine Kane's Blog.
Where the Lines Get Blurry
This is a first. How could someone who fought for Hitler be a personal hero? Ian Welsh presents a very compelling and thought provoking post entitled My Friend Peter at The Agonist.
One Small Act of Courage, Seemingly Insignificant...
This post wasn't submitted to me for the Carnival, but appeared in the Pursue the Passion blog. It's such a compelling and sobering story, I highly recommend it to you. (And stay tuned for more on the Brett Farmiloe and his intrepid crew as they make their way across the country in their huge RV...they are scheduled to park that puppy in my driveway at the end of August)
Love This Guy
Okay, am I a bad Carnival mom if I pick favorites every month? It's a rare thing for me to accept two posts from the same author but Stephen Hopson is so gutsy he just made me smile. Writes well, too. Hope to see more of him over here as he sure does seem to fit right in here with dragon slaying. Head on over to Adversity University: Three Words - REMEMBER who helped you along the way... and be sure to check out this next one, too, which is rockin' for those of you freaked out about job interviews. I would have LOVED to have been a fly on the wall for this one. Adversity University: Trust in Being Brave - The Merrill Lynch Story both posted at Adversity University.
Waiting For the Clouds To Go
Kara-Leah Masina presents How to survive near-drowning in an ocean of tears posted at Be Conscious Now. Of this post, Kara-Leah says, "My experience taught me that courage is something we gradually build up as we face our fears, and our selves, doing what needs to be down in each and every moment."
Of Course You Are Scared, You Silly Business Owner, You
Anmol Mehta returns this month with a post on all the second guessing every business owner goes through. New Kundalini Yoga Classes and The Courage To Live Dangerously posted at Mastery of Meditation, Enlightenment & Kundalini Yoga.
From the World of Sports: Overcoming the Odds and Having Attitude
Dr. Hal presents a retrospective on the life of Bo Schembechler posted at North Star Mental Fitness Blog. Bo had his first heart attack 37 years ago. Dr. Kim Eagle, clinical director of the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center and Schembechler’s doctor for five years, said the coach fought heart disease and diabetes for 40 years calling him “the most courageous patient I’ve ever had”
Jimson Lee adds a short story on how he met USA Decathlete Dan O'Brien, who failed to qualify for the 1992 Olympics, and went on to win Gold in 1996. A tale of attitude and courage, Attitude and American Decathlete Dan O’Brienis posted at Speedendurance.com.
A Passion for Life
Another beautiful post here. I am so happy to say that I know people just like this. May we all be so lucky. Cade Krueger presents Visions of Excitement posted at Small Business Opportunity.
The Road to Financial Health
Mira admits she hasn't given her finances much thought, but she's decided that she wants to get a handle on her money while she's young. Her parents have loaned her money before and are willing to loan more as she needs it, but Mira feels their financial support might be holding her back. She wants to stay financially independent rather than count on others for assistance. Mira hopes that by sharing her progress with us she will feel more accountable. See how she's doing.Millionaire Mommy Next Door presents Baby Stepper Shares Her Journey Towards Financial Independence posted at Millionaire Mommy Next Door.
Human Rights
Here's a small act of courage: support a baby's right to eat in public. Kate Baggott presents Nursing Needs More Support in Ireland posted at Babylune.
Funny What Sticks With Us
This post really struck a chord with me as I remember the mom who drove us to school grabbing my report card and her daughter's every reporting period and asking her daughter, "Why can't you be more like Laura?!" Needless to say, that led to a few fist fights on the playground. (No, I'm not really kidding about that part. Thankfully I was quick and could dodge those fists that wanted to level the playing field.) edithyeung presents The Perfect 8 posted at Edith Yeung.com Dream Think Act.
Where Do Bloggers Go When They Aren't Posting?
Sometimes into a brand new life. Nneka presents After A Blogging Hiatus posted at Spirituality Blog.
It's a Matter of Labels
We all face situations where nerves can seize us and make presenting a terrifying prospect. You can try all kinds of techniques and tips for banishing your nerves and boosting your confidence, but I’m convinced the best way to overcome the nervousness of “putting yourself out there” is in shifting one’s perspective. This is easier and more effective. There is but a single, key step to take to banish your nerves forever. I’m convinced it’s the most effective method. Look it square in the eye. GP presents Horse showing lessons posted at Fish Creek House - INNside Innkeeping.
That concludes this issue. Thanks again to all who submitted!
Ready to join us?
I'll switch this to a monthly carnival, next one will come out in September when I have sufficient entries to make a decent read for you.You are welcome to submit any courage related post you like, whether it's your own act of bravery, big or small or that of someone who has inspired you. Share your tales from the trenches as you wrestle with those things that are stretching and challenging you. General coaching or inspirational articles and "how to" submissions will be unceremoniously dismissed. I'm tired of restating this.
Because I am so awesome: I know several of my readers do not have blogs but do have stories to share. If you feel inspired to share, please e-mail me your spell-checked and well-written submission for me to consider posting on your behalf. I want to give everyone a chance to participate but I'm a one-woman show here so pieces that require heavy editing will be returned to you for fixing.
For more on me, visit Wellspring Coaching.

Thanks for hosting the carnival and including my submission. I'll be linking back here in my weekly Blog Carnival Roundup edition on Friday.
