Welcome to the Issue #13 of the Carnival of Courage: A Cavalcade of Superheroes!
Greetings, All!
Happy Spring everyone. We are celebrating here with a good old fashioned hail storm complete with thunder and frogs croaking their heads of in the marsh. I'm keeping an eye out for the Four Horsemen. I'll let you know if I spot anything crazy.
Smaller carnival today, but some of the submissions were very lengthy reads so you'll have plenty to sink your teeth into. I'll let you get right to the reads here as it's a hopping day at old Wellspring as I settle in after my trip to see the little peewees you see in the pic here. Hate to tell you but that little girl there, now seven, beat all of us bowling. Parents, brother and me. PITIFUL. Yes, she was using bumpers, but then again, so were we. Like I said: pitiful.
Okay, let's get to it, shall we?
Courageous Republicans?
Here a Bushie, there a Bushie, but not everywhere a Bushie Bushie. Dick Cheney was informed that Chuck Hagel decided to put principle over party and vote for the resolution. On this day, Dick Cheney
was not "the decider". On this day it was Chuck Hagel who cast the deciding vote. DWSUWF presents Can Chuck Hagel save the GOP from the Bushies? posted at Divided We Stand United We Fall.
One more very cool kid...
Megan Bayliss presents Boy Shaved for a Cure - Right Before the Wedding posted at Home Schooling Aspergers.. Metgan notes that the real act of courage may have been his mom letting him do this right before wedding photos. Great story, cool kid, feel free to donate to the cause if you have a mind to.
The Joy of Giving Can Change Everything
Sometimes giving is so much fun that we can forget ourselves in the process. Maybe that's the point. Barbra Sundquist presentsWhy I'm Happy To Do Something I Dislike posted at WelcomeJoy.com
And speaking of change...
In honor of tax season, we've got a money related post for you from GP out in Montana who has had to learn a few things about running a business that represented a complete change of lifestyle. GP says, "It takes courage to change and keep the change. Are you up to it?" A few hard hitting questions about financial preparedness are included along with a yummy recipe for raisin bran muffins. Head over to Keep the Change posted at Fish Creek House - INNside Innkeeping.
Drawing on Faith to Strengthen One's Courage
If major industries and multinational corporations can get trapped by fear of change with all the resources available to help them deal with it, why wouldn't you freeze up sometimes yourself? Moses E. Miles III recommends keeping the faith in Accepting Change posted at Three Sticks.
You Know You Are a Fickle and Ever-Changing Creature, Right?
Brandon Peele was allowed to slip under my "No General Personal Development Articles" rule with his submission Spiritual Autolysis posted at GT. While he didn't share with us a personal story of courage, he gave an exercise that is very simple that I thought might be of some use to you all who are looking for techniques to play around with the "What is my passion?" question. So, as grist for your mills, I let it in but Brandon, you have used your free pass. Future submissions need to be personal stories of courage, yours or someone elses. On this I am trying very hard not to be fickle.
That concludes this issue. Thanks again to all who submitted!
Ready to join us?
Next carnival is due out on 4/13/07.You are welcome to submit any courage related post you like, whether it's your own act of bravery, big or small or that of someone who has inspired you. Share your tales from the trenches as you wrestle with those things that are stretching and challenging you.
SUBMIT TO THIS CARNIVAL by April 12th.
Because I am so awesome: I know several of my readers do not have blogs but do have stories to share. If you feel inspired to share, please e-mail me your spell-checked and well-written submission for me to consider posting on your behalf. I want to give everyone a chance to participate but I'm a one-woman show here so pieces that require heavy editing will be returned to you for fixing.

If anyone is interested in a genuine, first-person story of courage, allow me to suggest this week's Newsweek cover story by Jonathan Alter -- "How I Live With Cancer."
